Welcome to the Lesson with Luke! Below you’ll find everything you need to know about how lessons work — scheduling, payment, cancellations, and a few other things that help us keep every student’s weekly lesson running smoothly. Please read through these guidelines, as they apply to every family enrolled with us.

YOUR WEEKLY LESSON SLOT

When you enroll, your child is given a dedicated weekly lesson time for the school year. That time is reserved just for your child for the whole semester, so we ask families to commit to the full semester when signing up, rather than lesson by lesson. We consider the fall semester September-December and the spring semester January-June, with specific dates depending on the calendar year.

HOW PAYMENT WORKS

Lessons are either billed weekly or in advance with progressive discounts in packs of 4, 8, or 12 lessons — whichever works best for your family. You’ll receive an invoice for each pack, and payment is due upon receipt.

If an invoice goes seven (7) days without payment, a 5% weekly interest charge will apply to the outstanding balance until it’s settled. If an account is more than fourteen (14) days past due, we reserve the right to pause upcoming lessons until the balance is caught up.

SICK DAYS & CANCELLATIONS

We know life happens, so each family gets one excused sick day per semester — that lesson won’t be charged, and we’ll do our best to find a make-up time based on your teacher’s availability. Make-up lessons aren’t guaranteed, though, so if we can't fit one in before the semester ends, it can’t be refunded.

Beyond that one sick day, please note our 24-hour cancellation policy: any lesson canceled, rescheduled, or missed within 24 hours of its scheduled time will be charged in full, no matter the reason.

If we ever need to cancel a lesson on our end — whether that’s your teacher or the studio — we’ll make it right with a make-up lesson or a credit toward your next invoice, whichever you’d prefer.

AN ADULT SHOULD ALWAYS BE PRESENT

We ask that a parent or guardian be present for the entire lesson, every time. Our teachers are there to teach music, not to supervise students independently, so lessons may be paused or postponed if an adult isn’t around.

WORKING WITH OUR TEACHERS

All of our instructors teach through Lesson with Luke, and that’s how we’re able to guarantee quality, consistency, and coverage for every family. Please do not arrange private lessons directly with a Lesson with Luke teacher outside the studio. Doing so is considered a serious breach of these guidelines and may result in losing your spot with us.

KEEPING THINGS PRIVATE

We treat your family’s personal, billing, and scheduling information as confidential, and we share only what’s needed to run lessons and invoicing smoothly, or what we’re required to by law. We ask families to extend the same courtesy to any internal business details you may come across.

IF YOU NEED TO STEP AWAY

We hope you’ll stay with us for the whole semester, but if you ever need to end lessons early, just give us fourteen (14) days’ written notice. You’ll still be responsible for any lessons already completed or scheduled within that notice window, in keeping with the cancellation policy above. Fees already paid for a lesson pack aren’t refundable, though we’re happy to work with families on a case-by-case basis.

USE OF PHOTOS & VIDEOS

Upon initial registration, parents are given the option to exclude their child from any Lesson with Luke social media or marketing materials. The consent is copied below:

Parent and/or Student hereby consents to and authorizes LWL Studio to capture and use video-audio recordings and photographic images of Student and Student’s musical performances and quoted statements in print, electronic, or online media, for educational and Lesson With Luke promotional purposes only, without any compensation to Parent or Student. Parent and/or Student agrees to waive and release any and all claims Parent and/or Student may have against Lesson With Luke relating to the use of these recordings, images, or statements. This Consent is binding upon all heirs and future legal representatives. Lesson With Luke will not personally identify a minor child by full name in connection with a video recording or photographic image of the child, unless Lesson With Luke receives separate written, signed consent from the Parent.

A NOTE ON SAFETY

Music lessons involve instruments and studio equipment, and as with any hands-on activity, there’s a normal, small chance of minor injury or accidental damage along the way. By enrolling, families agree to hold Lesson with Luke and our teachers harmless for anything that falls under this kind of ordinary risk, so long as we haven’t been careless or acted improperly. We’d also ask that families help cover the cost of any studio property or instruments damaged through a student’s misuse.

LESSON MATERIALS

Any lesson plans, exercises, or materials your teacher puts together remain the property of Lesson with Luke and are meant for your child’s personal use as part of their lessons with us

These guidelines are governed by the laws of the State of New York.

These guidelines reflect our full understanding with enrolled families and replace any earlier version.

If any part of these guidelines is ever found unenforceable, the rest will still stand.

We will communicate any changes to these guidelines to families in writing.
