A short story about us
Lesson with Luke was founded in 2018 by Luke Smith, a professional actor and musician in NYC. With credits on Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, television, and film, Luke brings a wealth of experience to his teaching. For over 12 years, he has inspired students of all ages, drawing from the passion instilled by the teachers who shaped his own love of music.
Motivated by this impulse, Lesson with Luke came to life.
Today, Lesson with Luke is a team of exceptional teaching artists united by a mission to share the wisdom gained from their professional journeys. Every teacher has a strong background in both teaching and performance and is committed to building personal connections with students—fostering lasting musical growth and passion.

We proudly serve families in Manhattan and Brooklyn—and our network of supported neighborhoods is always growing. With personalized, in-home lessons, we take the travel out of music education and bring the joy of learning right to your door.

We tailor lessons to each student’s age, skill level, and personality. Whether your child is just starting out or already has years of experience, our dedicated teachers are here to inspire and support their musical journey.
We welcome students ages 3 and up. For our youngest musicians (ages 3 and 4), lessons focus on fun music games that introduce rhythm, pitch, and early music-reading skills.
Older students dive into instrument technique and build a repertoire of songs they love. For advanced learners, our teachers draw on years of professional experience to nurture growth across a wide range of musical styles and help students reach the next level.
